1980 -Graduate of Carver Vocational Technical High School, Baltimore, MD. Received 2 bronze and 2 silver medals in V.I.C.A. Statewide Skills Olympics in Graphic Arts.

 

1984 -Graduate of The Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore, MD Received Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, B.F.A. in Graphic Design.

CAREER PATH

1985 to present-Owner, Melanin Graphics, Baltimore, MD Specializing in African American Art, Melanin Graphics is a publishing and distribution company which promotes the works of 16 artists and over 300 images nationwide.

 

1981 to 1989-Owner, Poncho Illustrations, Baltimore, MD Advertising services provided were logo design, airbrush illustration, graphic design, sign writing and display.

 

1979 to 1981-Balloons Over America, Towson, MD Duties included design and production of artwork for balloon imprints, sign writing and display.

 

1978 to 1982-Washington Signs, Baltimore, MD Duties included layout and design of billboards, windows, vehicles, showcards, murals and silk-screening.

1993 -Featured on KTLA show "Weekend Gallery" discussing the Eleventh Annual Artists' Salute to Black History Month in Los Angeles.

 

1992 -Featured on WSBT TV 22 and interviewed as a featured artist at the Elkhart Black Expo.

 

1992 -Featured on Black Entertainment Television show "Our Voices" hosted by Beverly Smith and discussing African American Art.

 

1991 -Featured on Tony's Travels, hosted by Tony Pagnotti WMAR-TV 2 highlighting artists and some of his students at his studio.

 

1990 to 1993 -Hosted "Studio 1117" an art instructional television program aired in Prince George's County and Washington, DC on cable access for Bowie State University. Six 30 minute shows giving an introduction to airbrushing, lettering,and caricatures.

 

1989 -Featured in a 30 minute interview on cable access program "Studio 1117" for Bowie State University.

 

HIGHLIGHTS

 

1991 to Present -Melanin Graphics sponsors "The African American Youth Art Exhibition" an annual Black History Month event scheduled for Baltimore City Schools.

1994 -Chosen as one of the featured artists to exhibit works at the Bahia Art and Jazz Festival in Bahia, Brazil.

1994 -The work "Each One, Teach One" was commissioned for the Black History Month Celebration, Atlanta, GA commemorative poster.

1993 -Artwork titled "Infinity" was purchased by The District of Columbia Superior Courts, and added to their personal collection.

1993 -Artwork titled "Sidesteppin" was featured on the set of the HBO special "Laurel Avenue".

1993 -Became one of the youngest inductees at the Carver Vocational - Technical High School "Hall of Fame" as a successful alumni.

1993 -The work "Rejoice" was selected for the Eleventh Annual Artist's Salute to Black History Month commemorative poster.

1993 -The works "Infinity" and "Legacy" were chosen for the set of the NBC show "Here and Now".

1992 -Created portrait presented to Susan Taylor, editor of Essence Magazine.

1992 -The works "Black Is Black", "Queen Nofretari", and "Queen Khamerernebty" chosen for the set of the hit NBC show "A Different World".

1992 -Produced signage and props for the movie "Meteor Man".

1991 -The work "Legacy" commissioned for the "Kunta Kinte Festival" commemorative poster.

1991 -Produced signage and props for the movie "He Said, She Said".

1990 -Produced signage and props for the movie "Homicide".

1989 -Produced signage and props for the movie "Avalon" by Barry Levinson.

1989-Produced before and after illustrations of all the patients Dick Gregory's Health Resort in Fort Walton Beach, FL.

1989 -Created portrait presented to Ed Bradley.

1988 -Created portraits presented to performers Roy Ayers, Noel Pointer, Lonnie Liston Smith, and Bobby Humphrey for the "Just Say No" concert.
