Sisters’ Journey, a non-profit support organization founded by Linda White- Epps for women of color that have survived breast cancer, celebrated its 2nd Annual Pink Tea October 2002 in North Haven, Connecticut. During the event the community, caregivers, supporters and family meet and shared in the celebration of cancer survivorship and meet the women being featured in the calendar for the year. The organization publishes the calendar annually. This year’s Pink Tea celebration was one of the most spectacular events ever. Featured at last year’s Tea was nationally renowned artist Larry “Poncho” Brown. Mr. Brown was commissioned to create an original entitled “Sisters’ Journey” for the organization by II Sisters Art Gallery of New Haven, CT. The unveiling of the original and a commemorative print was featured at the fundraiser in support of the organization. Mr. Brown was personally touched by breast cancer when his mother was diagnosed in 2001 with the disease and unfortunately lost her battle with complications from the disease shortly thereafter. In honor of Breast Cancer awareness month, both Mr. Brown and II Sisters Art Gallery were extremely honored to support an organization whose mission is to enlighten women of color about the importance of early detection and swift treatment for breast cancer. The reproductions of this work retail for $75.00 and are a signed and numbered edition of 850. Proceeds to benefit Sisters’ Journey. Visit www.sistersjourney.com for more information on the organization.
